Connemara

We’re expecting a lot of rain this week, but Monday was forecast to be less rainy. Not exactly bluebird skies, but the mid-day sun didn’t do anything to enhance the landscape. Neither did our jet lag.

We left Galway before 11, heading to Clifden in Connemara on the Clifden Road. Impossible to get lost! We stopped for sandwiches at the Connemara Hotel in Oughterard, paid a visit to Joyce’s Crafts near Recess, and finally reached Clifden.

The center of town was packed full of cars and small shops. We headed to the beach, actually a rescue station and boat club at the end of Beach Road. After about a 20 minute nap we stretched our legs to look around. The nap helped. We both got out our cameras and focused on little stuff. I did some ICM and multiple exposure work, most of which will go into the trash. It was a good way to spend an hour or so.

I think we left around 4. I was concerned because when I checked sunset times on my app it said the sun would set around 6. That didn’t seem right, but it worried me. Then I noticed that the date on my app was February 28. Resetting to today, with an 8:30 sunset was better. We headed to Letterfrack and the visitor center to Connemara National Park. It was closed, but the park around it was open and beautiful, with goats and lambs in the trees munching away.

We passed Kylemore Abbey, and stopped once more for a roadside waterfall before heading home. Oh, and Tesco. We stopped for Tesco.
